Treatment Approach

The types of therapy that I use are predominantly "behavioral." There are different types of therapies out there, some involving the discussion and processing of events and thoughts, and others around changing behaviors before changing your thoughts or feelings.

Clients report feeling better with both types of therapy. That said, there is a significant amount of research that has gone into the treatment of anxiety-based disorders. Both Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) have long-standing and research-proven results with many of the disorders that I specialize in treating. Sometimes, the people I treat also come with a co-occurring (comorbid) depression or adjustment disorder diagnosis. CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can help alleviate symptoms for these concerns.

If you are suffering from comorbid diagnoses, I will treat them simultaneously so that your length of treatment will not be extended due to prioritizing the care of one disorder over another. Please note that I am not a specialist in treating personality disorders, trauma, psychosis, or developmental disorders, though I have worked with them all. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, the aforementioned mental health diagnoses may require additional, dedicated treatment from a separate therapist. Receiving treatment for these disorders first could provide you with the tools that you need to manage other diagnoses with ease.
